Albany Police said they tried stopping the driver near First and Judson streets at around 8:30 p.m. Monday, May 20, but he refused to stop.

When the officer activated their emergency lights, the teen reportedly drove north on Judson Street at a high rate of speed before striking several cars near Livingston Avenue.

At that point, the driver took off on foot, police said.

Officers were able to catch up and arrest the suspect, who was identified as a 16-year-old boy from Albany, according to police.

He had a loaded .40 caliber handgun on him that he attempted to throw under a parked car while running from officers, police said.

Investigators determined that the vehicle the suspect was driving had been reported stolen to Albany Police earlier in the day.

The teen is facing multiple criminal charges, including criminal possession of stolen property and reckless driving.

He is being held at the Albany County Youth Detention Facility awaiting arraignment in Albany County Family Court.
